2D Background tasks (Week 9)
One of our tasks to do along with our 2D background shot is to roughly copy the composition of animation backgrounds from animated classics (references from animationbackgrounds.blogspot.com):
My notes from studying this backgrounds composition:
Similarly to the Alice in Wonderland background, the hue of the shadows goes from cold blues in the foreground and background, and warm purple/oranges in the middle ground, which is especially prominent in the clouds at the bottom corners and the ones floating above the pillars. The blue shadows attract the viewers’ eyes to those areas, and because those parts form points both leading towards the middle of the composition, they act as arrows for your eyes to follow along to the gates in the center. The beams of light coming from behind the gates also act as arrows, as they get smaller in the center. The tones of the whole picture are in the same sort of range, except for the gate and especially the lightning bolts, which are much darker and therefore draw your eyes to that area, especially considering the the sky/light from the sun behind the gate is the lightest part of the composition.
