2D background tasks (Week 7)
One of our tasks to do along with our 2D background shot is to roughly copy the composition of animation backgrounds from animated classics (references from animationbackgrounds.blogspot.com):
My notes from studying this background's composition:
The foreground is dark and less detailed in tone and colour in comparison to the middle ground, however it has a very strong storytelling silhouette, showing the accent of gold to further emphasise how much gold is in this room, even in the shadows and darker corners of the room. This silhouette quickly tells the viewer that this room is full of treasured items and is stacked to the top of the frame and viewpoint and further up, giving a sense of awe and bewilderment.
The darker mountains of gold behind the gate create a lot of contrast between light and dark which helps frame the area, making your eyes move to that area of the composition as it seems further away. The gate is seen from a low angle, feeling rather intimidating - making the scale of everything else in the room seem bigger due to the feeling of this being the point of view of the viewer.
